Bio:  Justin has taught at Broughton Music & Art Center since 2001, and teaches 45 students per week, from ages 4 to 74. Justin has been performing in bars, clubs, theaters, and arenas since he was fifteen. He has played with rock and roll bands, funk bands, bluegrass bands, country bands, reggae bands, and is the lead vocalist and guitarist/keyboardist of the legendary Northville-based psychedelic rock band, Social Bones, (formerly Baked Potato). He has opened for The Guess Who, Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise, Merl Saunders, and Umphrey’s McGee, among many others. He has also done extensive studio session work, as a producer and a performer, and has albums of original music available for sale and streaming. Aside from popular music, Justin has performed with vocal ensembles, including barbershop quartets and gospel choirs, and has been cast in leading roles for several musicals. Justin took vocal and guitar lessons in his youth and has taught himself to play many instruments, including, piano, harmonica, bass guitar, and drum-set.

Philosophy:  “Music should be fun. If you are not enjoying it, you’re not getting it. Great performers know that it’s the emotion of a piece that moves the audience more than the notes. A student who plays from the heart is going to be a better musician than one who plays from the head.”
